Safer Practice

Creating safer organisations for all

“Pauls extensive experience as a LADO brings this session to life and provides authenticity to the key messages ”

“ The application of theory to real examples made the session really accessible”

The training is tailored for all staff and volunteers working directly with children or vulnerable adults. Its primary objective is to establish a deep understanding of what it truly means to be an adult in a position of trust . The course helps participants reflect upon the core skills and values necessary for safer practice. We look at the challenging topic of allegations and think about why allegations are made and the factors which prevent abuse and reduce the likelihood of false or malicious allegations. The session underlines the importance of an organisation's safeguarding culture which is the key line of defence for groups at risk of abuse and mistreatment.

The course is usually delivered at your location although virtual delivery options can be explored. The session typically lasts one half day or an evening, however a whole day option is also available allowing time to explore the topic in more depth.

The following specific areas are covered:

  1. The expected conduct of adults in positions of trust with children or vulnerable adults - focusing on values and principles which underpin safety.

  2. How abuse and mistreatment can manifest within organisations including the ways in which some adults exploit organisational structures to facilitate abuse.

  3. The process of managing allegations or concerns, providing clarity on what employees and volunteers can expect.

  4. Exploring how an organisation's safeguarding culture can act as a deterrent for adults who pose a risk, preventing them from feeling secure enough to engage in harmful behaviour.

  5. Reflecting on insights from serious cases where the abuse has been perpetrated by adults in a position of trust, extracting valuable lessons and applying them to professional practice.

This training session is highly relevant to individuals at all levels, including staff and volunteers.
